China Association Against Epilepsy is a national non-governmental, non-profit organization composed of epileptologists, other professionals and people who are interested and/or working at epilepsy treatment, prevention, research and care; including people with epilepsy and their family members and local epilepsy related organizations.
Mission of the CAAE: Compling with the constitution, laws, regulations and national policies, observing social moral and prevailing customs, conserving national and people’s benefits, promoting economic development and social progress, widely unite with the professionals and people who are interested and/or working at epilepsy treatment, prevention, research and care, to strive to the development of epilepsy prevention and control in China.
Objectives of the CAAE:
1, Publicity, education, popularization of the knowledge on epilepsy prevention and control; consultative service to people with epilepsy (PWE), their family members and society concerning knowledge of epilepsy prevention and control, information of medical facilities and experts, rehabilitation, employment, education, etc;
2, Promotion, coordination and regularization of the work of epilepsy prevention, control and scientific research, including training of physicians, primary healthcare workers to strengthen capacity of communities to deal with epilepsy;
3, Conducting epilepsy related public welfare activities;
4, Holding domestic and international academic exchange and cooperation related to epileptology, coordinating and providing clinical test base for new anti-epileptic drugs and equipments;
5, Promoting and protecting legal rights of people with epilepsy, consulting with government for related policies decision;
6, Investing non-profit epilepsy prevention, treatment and research entities when it is possible.
In 1997, the World Health Organization (WHO), International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) and International Bureau For Epilepsy (IBE) jointly initiated the Global Campaign Against Epilepsy (GCAE), aiming at helping people with epilepsy get out of the shadow through global cooperation to improve the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and social acceptance of epilepsy. CAAE has already became a chapter of the ILAE and IBE in August,2005. CAAE will actively participate in the campaign and commit itself to enhance the cooperation with ILAE and IBE; it will also strive for project supports from the government and WHO to increase its monetary investments in the cause against epilepsy; in addition, it will take the initiative to present China's achievements in clinical and scientific research on epilepsy to the world and become a window of China's prevention and control of epilepsy onto the world.
